According to the Project Management Institute (PMI), the discipline of Project Management is “the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities aimed at meeting or meeting the needs and expectations of an organization through a project.”
This definition is not engineering, but generic, and it can be emphasized that when organizing a project, there must be expectations, some previous needs. The project arises from a need, and what has to be done is to manage in the best possible way, the talent, knowledge, skills and tools and techniques available.
The International Project Management Association (IPMA) gives another definition according to which the Project Management discipline is “planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling all aspects of a project, as well as the motivation of all those involved in it, To achieve the objectives of the project in a safe way and satisfying the defined specifications of term, cost and performance / performance. This also includes the set of tasks of leadership, organization and technical direction of the project, necessary for its proper development. ”
In its definition, IPMA introduces the fundamental phases of project management and management (planning, organization, monitoring and control of all aspects of a project) to achieve the objectives in order to meet the initial specifications defined in the classic triangle Term, cost and quality. As quality is a very ambivalent term, that often generates different perception by the listeners, in fact one is talking term, cost and performance or performance with respect to the specifications.
Whatarethegoals of projectmanagement?
Introducing some basic concepts, project management basically deals with the most efficient use of resources, meeting deadlines, costs and quality. To be synthetic the ISO definition of quality “conformity to the specification” will be used, which means that a project has quality if it solves the initially proposed projects, ie if it corresponds to what was said to be done. It may happen that erroneous specifications have been made, so that the project will be well managed if it hits the wrong specifications (in this case the problem would be the specification phase), and also meets the deadline and cost.
